A message to ccLAN visitors::

Columbia Community LAN Organization began approximately 2 years ago with one simple goal in mind: find local people who like to play games. Since that date, and judging by recent turnout at events, ccLAN has been a great success. We have upgraded from a single 16-port network and a single game server, to a 48-port network with two dedicated game servers. We have a loyal, local following and we feel that we have brought a decent network of local gamers together. Sadly, this has become a bit larger burden than we originally envisioned. As always, all good things must come to an end.

The LAN this past weekend marks the last monthly event that we will be hosting as an organization. Several different issues came up throughout the weekend and it has simply become too much work for the few individuals who run it to manage. The Columbia cLAN forums will remain online for the foreseeable future and the true test of local gaming in Columbia begins.

When Columbia cLAN was started, I personally wanted it to be a true community-based organization. I wanted to create a place for local LAN organizers and gamers to come together and find information about LANs that we would be hosting, as well as promote their own events. Playing multiplayer games with 12 people is pretty cool – but playing with 32 players is usually that much better. What I have always hoped was that a group of gamers could get together and in the right environment, even if the primary games that were played weren't what they were into, they would still be able to find some players who liked the same thing. They'd be able to get together at our events, set up their own game (or game server), and get some good gaming in. Hopefully, that goal will still be in motion past the demise of our events.

I hope that for the past few months most of you have had a decent time at the events we have hosted. We may still be involved with local events from time to time, so I look forward to seeing you in-game...

Take care,
